Bob Blum: Artist Statement

I was fortunate enough to obtain this truly outstanding find of vintage and antique sequins along with beads from around the world. A once-in-a-lifetime find of embellishments all of which are 60 to 90 years old and more, in every imaginable color and shade. These sequins are as beautiful as the day they were purchased in the top fashion shops in New York. Breathtaking colors and top quality workmanship - the kind you cannot find anymore!

 

Using those same sequins which have a flair of color, the memories of the “roaring 20’s” and quality workmanship of the 30’s and early 40’s, I hand string each to create a bounty of magic and old-fashioned charm as individual, unusual and striking art jewelry. I consciously create through an expression of skill of imagination, combining sequins, paint and glass pieces which are eye catching and fun to wear, each with a story behind it. Some are for fun and the funky side, while others are for the more elegant, sophisticated side. One thing is consistent; they all have a splash of color or sparkle and an emphasis on quality – both materials and craftsmanship.
